SSL Certificate
Personal Information and SSL
Running a new startup company, wondering about privacy issues or maybe your board is? Internet site visitors wish to know that their information is safeguarded. Now does everyone care, probably not. Many individuals may not know anything about how data is kept secure. Most probably do not know what an SSL certificate is. However that does not mean you should not get a certificate.

What Customers See with the Secure Socket Layer Certificate
They’ll see a padlock icon inside their web browser bar to present visual affirmation that their information is encrypted. Not only will your customers appreciate it, those who care to look, but your investors will as well. These days investors and everyone involved with your site wants to know that the privacy issues are taken care of. It’s not as hot of a topic as it used to be but it is definitely a check box the investors like to see done. Now back to visitors, those that want to know their information is safeguarded will. Not having the SSL certificate and privacy logos as well as padlock in the browser bar may lead to you losing some sign ups. Not all of them, but any sign ups or sales lost is not worth it when the certificates are not crazy expensive.
How They Work
Basically the visitors browser sees that a page is encrypted and before making a connection asks for verification. The host, your website, sends back their certificate that is verified by a third party so the user knows it is valid. Only then is a secure connection made by using the SSL. It is that easy, but the critical part is knowing it is verified by the third party which issues the certificates and already vetted your website to assure it is secure and they know who you are if anything goes wrong.
